OUR HISTORY

After earning a degree in Agronomy from West Virginia University, John A. "Chip" McDonald constructed Hobbit’s Glen Golf Club in Columbia, Maryland, where he served as Golf Course Superintendent for 15 years.
In 1984, Chip and his wife Betty founded McDonald & Sons, Inc. laying a strong foundation built on hard work and dedication. Over the years, the two transformed it from a small family-owned business into a premier builder in the golf course industry
In 1990, McDonald & Sons, Inc. became a charter member and certified builder of the Golf Course Builders Association of America, GCBAA. With a commitment to quality work, attention to detail, and open communication, Chip built lasting relationships with renowned architects, championship venues, private clubs, and public courses across the nation.
Over 40 successful years, the family and long tenured team nurtured the business, which eventually transitioned to the next generation of McDonalds, John II and Erik.
